Special Olympics GB is part of the global Special Olympics International organisation which is the largest disability sports organisation in the world. As a global movement Special Olympics reaches 3.6 million athletes across 200 countries.  Together we want to inspire real change by raising awareness of intellectual disability, ending discrimination, and building an inclusive world for all. 

Skills Needed

  • Flexible 
  • Basic understanding of sports events - desirable not necessary 
  • Ability to demonstrate simple drills with head coach guidance 
  • Organisational skills (setting up equipment, managing groups) 
  • Awareness of health & safety in a sports setting 
  • Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion 
  • Ability to adapt activities to suit different abilities and needs 
  • Awareness that athletes may have physical, learning, sensory, or hidden disabilities 
  • Willingness to learn about inclusive coaching methods 
  • Promotes confidence, independence, and participation for all

Volunteer Coaching Support roles – Stoke-on-Trent 

We are looking for volunteers in the following sports 

  • Athletics (Monday) 6pm-7pm 
  • Badminton (Tuesday) 7pm -9pm 
  • Basketball (Wednesday) 8pm -9pm 

Overview 

We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to provide general coaching support at our weekly training sessions in Stoke-on-Trent. 

No experience necessary – just a positive attitude, willingness to learn, and a flexible approach! 

What we’re looking for: 

Reliable and friendly individuals 

Willingness to support qualified coaches 

Able to spare a few hours a month or make a weekly commitment. Practices are 1-2 hours weekly.  

What you’ll gain:
