International Competition
Special Olympics is a recognised partner of the International Olympic Committee which means we are part of the Olympic and Paralympic family.
Just like the Olympics and Paralympics – every four years Special Olympics holds major World Games in both summer and winter sports.
However, unlike Olympics and Paralympics we offer sporting opportunities and competitions all year round for ALL abilities.
As a member of the Special Olympics global movement, Special Olympics GB is able to take part in the Special Olympics World Games.
Past World Games
The last Special Olympics World Winter Games was held in 2017 in Austria.
The last Special Olympics World Summer Games was held in 2019 in Abu Dhabi.
Upcoming World Games
The next Special Olympics World Winter Games was due to held in Kazan, Russia in January 2023, however this has now been cancelled. To read more more about these Games being cancelled, please click HERE.
