"I love volunteering as much as I loved being a Special Olympics GB athlete!  Sunday mornings are filled with smiles, hardwork and fun.”
By Dan Bendle, 2011 World Games Gold Medallist and current Head Coach, Special Olympics Swansea

At Special Olympics GB, our brilliant volunteers are the backbone of our organisation.

Special Olympics GB exists today thanks to the time, energy, commitment and kindness of people just like you who put inclusion into action to make the world a better place.

More than 3,500 dedicated volunteers and coaches across Scotland, England and Wales support and drive the delivery of our sports programmes – enabling the participation in training and competitions for both adults and children with intellectual disabilities, day in, day out, throughout the year.

Who can volunteer?

Special Olympics GB is always looking for volunteers.

Whether you can spare a few hours at an event or want to get involved regularly, there is a role for you.

You can become a Coach, an Event Volunteer, provide Athlete 1:1 Support, a Fundraiser, First Aider, Driver, Steering Group Member, and/or a Volunteer Co-ordinator.

There is a place for volunteers of all abilities and interests. All we ask is that you have a passion for helping empower children and adults with intellectual disabilities through sport.

For some specialised roles we look for experience and qualifications but for most roles we ask you just to bring your enthusiasm, good humour and energy.

Why volunteer with Special Olympics GB?

There are many reasons to get involved, including:

•    Having fun and experiencing the joy of working with our athletes!
•    Feeling part of your community and making a real difference.
•    Building lasting friendships.
•    Developing new skills for personal and professional development
•    Volunteer education and safeguarding support

How do I get involved?

There are a number of ways to volunteer with us here at Special Olympics GB and we will help get you started on your volunteering journey.

You can volunteer through one of our clubs – use the Find a Club page and get in contact with your local accredited programme to find out if they are recruiting. If they are, complete the Volunteer Registration Form and we will get you started.

You can also volunteer at one of our events, use our Events Calendar to find your local events, contact the event host to find out if they need additional support and if they do, complete our Event Volunteer Registration Form.

Or, if you want to be kept in the loop with possible volunteering opportunities in your local area, email us here.
