Katie Day
Katie is the former Chair of the Athlete Leadership Team and also Athlete Representative for City of Birmingham and the West Midlands Region.
Katie enjoys her role as it’s given her confidence in finding her voice and learning new skills. She believes athlete leadership can show how life changing Special Olympics can be and enjoys sharing her story and experience with others.
Athlete Leadership is important to Katie as she believes it gives people the opportunity to show that ‘our athletes are more than their diagnosis or disability and it focuses on peoples ability and the importance of giving athletes a voice’.
Ellie Simmonds is Katie’s role model because of her success as a sportswoman and achievements for disabled athletes.
In her spare time Katie runs her own gardening business and enjoys going for walks.
Katie’s greatest achievement was being given her Silver Medal, at the 2005 World Winter Games, by Eunice Kennedy Shriver. She also recently volunteered at the Commonwealth Games in her home city of Birmingham and was awarded the ‘volunteer of the games’ for her efforts in supporting the boxing.
