Niall Guite

Niall is the Vice-Chair of the Athlete Leadership Team in Great Britain. He is also the athlete representative for Sheffield and Yorkshire and Humberside.

Niall likes being part of the Athlete Leadership Team as it gives him an opportunity to share his experiences and encourage other people to have a voice. He recently was awarded the 'Champion for Change Award' at Variety's Disability Sports Awards 2023.

Niall believes inclusion is crucially important and considers athlete leadership enables people to hear the voices of the athletes. He thinks other athletes should get involved in the leadership programme to develop their skills and learn to tell their own story and become more confident.

Niall is currently competing in Cycling, however his greatest sporting achievement came when he won a Gold medal in Basketball at the World Summer Games in Los Angeles in 2015. He fondly remembers how proud he felt to represent his country on the world stage.

Niall is also incredibly successful off the field of play. In 2021 he started his own social enterprise, 'Art With a Special Goal', where he sells prints of his infamous Football Stadiums. He also recently showcased his artwork at the Royal Academy of Arts’ Summer Exhibition.

Niall sees his friend, Grayson Perry, as a good role model because he likes the way in which Grayson tries to support people and that Grayson knows what it’s like to be different.

In Niall’s spare time he enjoys gardening, meeting friends and watching his beloved Sheffield Wednesday.
