We are delighted to welcome Ben Gillard to Special Olympics GB who has joined the team as our new Safeguarding Lead.
Ben’s focus will be to ensure that athletes are supported to access sport in a safe environment and support coaches from clubs to do this in a way that empowers athletes.
After qualifying as a nurse, Ben has worked in the health and social care since university. He has worked in both UK and Australia supporting organisations with all aspects of safeguarding and ensuring that people who access those services are empowered to voice their concerns. Ben is passionate about person-centred support, individual outcomes and community inclusion. Ben is a keen sports enthusiast who regularly plays and coaches soccer, golf, cricket and the odd spot of fishing.
Ben commented on his appointment: "I am delighted to have been appointed in the role that combines all my passions. The team have been very welcoming and to share so many values with people is truly inspiring. I can't wait to get out and about to meet athletes and coaches who are the engine room of making Special Olympics GB a truly unique organisation."
Ben lives in Shropshire with his partner and their cat. He enjoys watching (obsessed with) Liverpool Football Club, keeping fit, cooking, travelling and helping his partner in the garden.
