Inspired by the incredible achievements, dedication, and daily commitment shown by Special Olympics GB athletes, Safeguarding Lead Adam Leathwood has signed up for his first-ever triathlon.

On 20 July, Adam will be taking on the challenging Hathersage Hilly Triathlon in the Peak District to raise funds in support of athletes with intellectual (learning) disabilities. The course includes a 420-metre swim, a 21km hilly cycle, and a 6km run through woodland and open countryside.

To prepare, Adam is calling on the Special Olympics GB community to help him train, by joining swimming, cycling, and running sessions across the country.

“Working for Special Olympics GB, I’m lucky enough to witness our athletes’ incredible achievements every day,” said Adam. “Over the past year, I’ve seen medals won, personal bests smashed, new barriers broken, and even Guinness World Records set.

“However, from a personal perspective, I haven’t run a half marathon in nearly ten years and can’t remember the last time I swam a length, so I know that I’ve got work to do!

I want to learn from the best, so over the next three months I’ll be training with athletes around the country. If you’ve got a session I can join, please let me know!
