Special Olympics Great Britain (GB) is delighted to welcome Alexandra Pitts to its National Office staff to provide greater support to its network of accredited clubs and programmes.

As Network Development Manager (Clubs and Compliance) Alex will become the lead contact to accredited Special Olympics GB clubs, supporting them with their development, growth and compliance work.

She previously spent six years working for fellow National Disability Sport Organisation (NDSO) British Blind Sport, and has supported multiple organisations with equity, diversity and inclusion projects.

Given her background working with British Blind Sport, Alex is very knowledgeable about the needs of the local and regional clubs that operate at the grassroots of an NDSO.

“We’re keen to give our clubs as much support as possible to enable them to thrive, and to support our volunteers in providing the best possible sporting opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities. Alex’s knowledge and experience will play a big part in supporting this goal.”

Alex joins the Special Olympics GB Network Team, which is headed up by Emma Kane-McGuigan, and includes fellow Network Development Manager (Workforce) Matt Price who supports the movement’s 3,800 volunteers.

“I am very passionate about inclusive sport and the transformational role that it can play in people’s lives,” said Alex.

“Special Olympics GB is an organisation that I have followed closely for several years and to come into this role, and work with its many great clubs, is a fantastic opportunity.

“In the coming weeks, I’m looking forward to meeting the athletes and the fantastic volunteers in our network who change lives.”
