Special Olympics World Summer Games are the world's largest inclusive sports event. Thousands of athletes with intellectual disabilities compete together in 26 summer sports and Unified Sports® competitions. Eight days of exciting and inspiring competitions, by athletes and for athletes.
From 17th to 24th June 2023, the Special Olympics World Summer Games will take place in Berlin – the first time that Germany has hosted the Games!
The Berlin 2023 games will be a colourful international festival of sports – with the aim of achieving greater recognition and participation of people with intellectual disabilities in our society.
Special Olympics GB are pleased to announce that we have been offered places for 107 athletes (and Unified Partners) to take part in 18 sports.

Field Hockey is a new sport to the Special Olympics programme internationally and will officially be introduced at Berlin 2023 with an exhibition event. Special Olympics GB are delighted to have been invited to take part in the Mixed Field Hockey showcase event and we cannot wait to begin development of the sport for our athletes here in GB over the next 18 months.

Head of Delegation
Assistant Head of Delegation
The principal goal of the Head of Delegation (HOD)/Assistant Head of Delegation (AHOD) is to ensure the GB Team is sufficiently prepared to enable athletes/unified partners to perform at their optimum level and gain the best possible experience from the Games. The HOD has overall responsibility for the preparation, participation and evaluation of the GB Team attending the Games. The AHOD supports the HOD but may, by agreement, be given lead responsibility for specific areas. Please click HERE for the role descriptions.
